Everything always seems a bit better in the summertime. The warm air feels amazing on your skin. People are much more positive and carefree, with less worry on their minds, and the food… Well, nothing beats fresh summer fruit! Hello, Ontario peaches!
The hottest season of the year is also the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities and in Hamilton, there are plenty to choose from! We’ve gathered the best places to visit and experiences to have in the summer season while enjoying our amazing city.
See the Royal Botanical Gardens
One of the best things about Hamilton is the fact it has no shortage of green spaces. If you wish to learn more about nature and plants, plan a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens, which includes more than 27 kilometres of nature trails and 300 cultivated gardens. There, you will have the chance to see up close 2,400 plant species while enjoying seasonal exhibitions and wandering through the various gardens. But even a simple picnic in the Lilac dell will be something to remember
Discover the Majestic Waterfalls of Hamilton
Did you know the city is home to more than 100 waterfalls? For this reason, it is nicknamed the ‘city of waterfalls’. Most of them can be found along the Niagara escarpment and are set close together, so you can discover a number of them in one take. The most impressive one is Webster’s Falls, the largest in the region. The 22-metre curtain waterfall should be included in every adventurer’s travel bucket list. Climb over the rocky walls and enjoy a mist from the falls on the hottest days.
Head to Pier 8
Fans of rollerskating will have a fun day spending time at Pier 8. In the winter, it is where locals and tourists swarm for ice skating, while in summer–it is packed with people who wish to do a bit of rollerskating. Don’t worry if you don’t own a pair of skates. They can be rented on-site. If rollerskating is not your thing, you can grab a bite to eat or sit by the lake watching the boats from the marina.
Check out Outdoor Festivals
Hamilton is known for having an incredible cultural and art scene. Get your daily dose of inspiration by visiting one of the many outdoor festivals. Among the most popular ones is the James Street North Art Crawl, which takes place on the second Friday of every summer month. Make use of the opportunity to visit extraordinary galleries, superb restaurants and fantastic shops.
Have Fun at Gage Park
One of the best places to fully enjoy summer is the vast Gage Park – this neighbourhood green space is a hub for the east Hamilton community. Here locals head for peaceful walks, share picnics, play tennis and basketball, have fun at the playgrounds, and even listen to excellent concerts. Families will be particularly fond of the splash pad, which is the perfect place to cool off on hot summer days. Fans of bowling can pay a visit to the Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club. Whatever you decide to do – you are guaranteed to have a great time!
